Post-Dust Art
Oil Paint, Paper, Styrofoam, Sawdust, Serger Lint, Palettes
Various Works and Sizes
Post-Dust Art is art made with dust, debris and by-products of various manufacturing processes. Combined with the materials and signifiers of high-art practice such as oil paints, the frame and plinth we observe an experiment to elevate dust to the status of high-art.
Post-Dust Art can be understood as ‘painting with dust’ and the ratio of dust to new materials should be factored into the appreciation for these works. The individual pieces may need the support of complimentary pieces found in the exposition to be considered satisfactory. This turns our attention to the gallery context and how certain pieces may resume their status of dust or trash if displayed in a different context.
