Mouse funeral was the precursor of Sacred Projections. This film was created completely solo by Jen O’Connor.
After graduation, applying one’s art practice to video became an appealing idea because it offered room for creativity in several mediums. It requires the ability to use varied skillsets from writing to creating the set, costumes, performing as well as editing and working with sound. It was exciting to combine all these creative skills into one product but also overwhelming for one person especially on shoot day. Dealing with the realities of not having another body to assist in focusing the shots was frustrating at the time. Nevertheless, this semi-failure prompted the ideas which lead to the launch of Sacred Projections and the collaborative works that have been a marvelous success thus far.
